April 8, 2010

Today, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local Union 2629 proudly endorsed Democrat Jim King for Mayor of Louisville. The union represents over 1,000 hard working Metro Government employees in departments such as Public Works, Facilities, Health and the Zoo. "

Our union members have long been impressed with Councilman King's efforts to provide a quality workplace and a fair and equitable wage for Metro employees," said Greg Frazier, President of AFSCME Local 2629. "Jim's willingness to provide an environment where all employees have an equal voice will go far toward ensuring a better work environment."

"To have public employees stand with me in my campaign for Mayor of Louisville means a lot," said Councilman Jim King. "These hard working men and women of AFSCME trust me to continue supporting fairness and security in the work place, and that's exactly what I plan on doing."

Donny Brown, an AFSCME 2629 member, was excited when he heard that Councilman King was running office, "I'm thankful we have a candidate with a proven track record of support for the hard working citizens Louisville running for Mayor. I have no doubt that when elected Councilman King will do everything he can to create an open and honest government where every voice is heard."

Councilman King has had a 100% pro-labor record as Metro Councilman, standing with working families on issues like a living wage, fair labor standards and supporting apprenticeship programs. Additionally, he recently released "Ten Commitments to Louisville's Working Families" that provides workers with a written commitment that ensures their voice will be heard in city government.
