Several Key Leaders in South Louisville Endorse Jim King for Mayor
February 17, 2010
The Jim King for Mayor campaign announced today several respected current and former elected officials that are endorsing King’s campaign for Mayor of Louisville. The first county wide elected official to endorse in this race, Commonwealth’s Attorney Dave Stengel leads the list of endorsements. Also endorsing Councilman King’s candidacy are former Mayor of Shively Jim Jenkins and prominent south-end democrats State Representative Dennis Horlander, Metro Councilman Bob Henderson and Metro Councilman Dan Johnson.
“I’m honored by the endorsement of these respected elected officials from southern Jefferson County,” said King. “I understand the plight that many citizens have had to deal with over the years in the south end and I believe that I am most qualified to address their issues and truly bring the promise of merger to all of Jefferson County.”
The elected officials gave testimony as to how they came to the decision to endorse King for Mayor:
“Jim has always had a servant’s heart and he has proven his ability to be the CEO of Metro Louisville through his service on the Metro Council and other civic organizations. I’m proud to endorse Jim King for Mayor because he stands for the values of the hard working people of this community.”
- Dave Stengel, Commonwealth’s Attorney
“I’m honored to endorse Jim King because he has the right plan to bring all of Louisville together. He understands that we need to stand together and that cannot afford to fall into the same old story of divide and conquer. We are all Louisvillians and are all in this together.”
- Jim Jenkins, former Mayor of Shively
“As a proud blue-collar man, I am so honored that Jim King has stood up for working families in this community. His ten commitments to our working men and women along with the labor unions that have endorsed Jim show me that he is a stand up kind of guy that believes in the same values as many in our community.”
- Dennis Horlander, State Representative, 40th District
“It has been an honor to serve with Councilman Jim King for the past five years on the Metro Council. Through his support of Farnsley-Moorman and Riverview Park he has proven his commitment to southwest Jefferson County, and on the Council he has shown that he can bring people together even in the most difficult of times. Jim King will make a fine Mayor and I’m pleased I can help in his efforts.”
- Bob Henderson, Metro Councilman, 14th District
“Jim King has the right credentials to be our next Mayor. He has stood up for the constituents of his Metro Council District and improved their quality of life while enhancing their public safety. He understands local issues and will always work to protect our neighborhood values.”
- Dan Johnson, Metro Councilman, 21st District Councilman
King was born in Louisville’s St. Joseph’s neighborhood and raised in the nearby Highlands community. After building many successful businesses, he went on to serve as the Metro Councilman for Louisville’s 10th Council District. He was elected Vice-Chairman of the Democratic Caucus in 2005, Democratic Caucus Chairman in 2006 and 2007, Metro Council President in 2008 and Metro Council Budget Chair in 2009 and 2010. Jim is married to his wife, Debbie and together have four children and eight grandchildren, all still living in Louisville.
