OVER 65 ELECTED OFFICIALS AND COMMUNITY LEADERS FROM METRO COUNCIL DISTRICT 10 ENDORSES DEMOCRAT JIM KING FOR MAYOR

April 13, 2010

In an unprecedented move in the Louisville Mayor’s race, over 65 locally elected officials and community leaders from Metro Council District 10 have endorsed Democrat Jim King for Mayor of Louisville. District 10 is Councilman King’s home district where he has served as Metro Councilman for over five years.

“We are the people who know Jim best. We know his work ethic, strong Democratic values, and his commitment to helping people,” said Liz Martin, a leader and resident of Councilman Kings 10th District. Endorsements included are from former Alderman of the 4th Ward and Councilman from the 10th District, Cyril Allgeier and his wife, Mary, former Alderman from the 5th Ward and Board of Alderman President Steve Magre, and unofficial “Mayor” of Schnitzelburg George Hauck. Additionally, Mayor of Audubon Park, Mike Scalise, Mayor of the City of Watterson Park, Norm Liebert and Mayor of West Buechel, Sharon Fowler have all endorsed King’s candidacy for Mayor of Louisville.

“Working as a partner with the District 10 community has been one of my greatest personal and professional achievements,” commented Councilman King. “To know that citizens and leaders are able work together to build bridges for positive, neighborhood-based enhancement is monumental to me. It is one of the main reasons why I made the choice to be a public servant.”

Councilman Jim King was the first Metro Council member to choose to have his constituent’s comment on his job performance as an elected official. In 2009, the Metro District 10 office conducted a constituent satisfaction survey modeled after a similar, successful effort in Arlington, VA. This groundbreaking effort in Louisville allowed for constituents to give feedback during the elected term of Councilman King. When asked what their quality of life was in District 10 under King’s leadership, over 80% said it was excellent or good.

“I couldn’t think of a better person than Jim King to take the reigns of District 10 in 2004 and I can’t think of a better person to be our next Mayor,” said former Councilman from the 10th District and Alderman in the 4th Ward, Cyril Allgeier. “I’m so proud of his work in our neighborhoods, and as a Democrat, Jim has led the efforts to unify our party.”

Former 5th Ward Alderman and President of the Board of Alderman, Steve Magre said, “Jim is a friend, ally and advocate for a better quality of life in our neighborhoods. As a CPA and leader on the Metro Council, Jim has shown he has abilities to be both accountable and provide the type of government that is open to all in our community.”
