Jefferson County Teachers Association endorses Jim King for Mayor of Louisville

Louisville, KY - Today, the Jefferson County Teachers Association proudly endorsed Jim King for Mayor of Louisville. This comes as the fourth endorsement in two weeks for King for Mayor. The JCTA represents over 6,000 teachers, librarians, speech clinicians, physical therapists and occupational therapists in the Jefferson County school system.

"I am so grateful and honored that the JCTA has endorsed my candidacy for Mayor of Louisville,” said Councilman Jim King. “JCTA has proven itself to be a progressive force in moving education forward in Louisville. My commitment is to always stand with our teachers, school workers and parents to better the lives of our children in Jefferson County.”

Councilman King has had a 100% pro-labor record as Metro Councilman, standing with working families on issues like a living wage, fair labor standards and supporting apprenticeship programs. Additionally, he recently released “Ten Commitments to Louisville’s Working Families” that provides workers with a written commitment that ensures their voice will be heard in city government.

“With five labor unions and several prominent elected officials now endorsing our campaign, it is clear that the momentum in this race has shifted toward Jim King,” said Jonathan Hurst, Campaign Manager for Jim King for Mayor. “Voters are starting to see a clear choice for Mayor in the Democratic primary and we firmly believe that Jim King is that choice.”

Councilman King has recently rolled out endorsements that include the Carpenters and Millwrights Union, the Asbestos and Insulators Union, the United Union of Roofers, the Sheet Metal Workers’ and several key south-end elected officials including Commonwealth’s Attorney Dave Stengel, former Mayor of Shively, Jim Jenkins, State Representative Dennis Horlander and Metro Council members George Unseld, Bob Henderson, Marianne Butler and Dan Johnson.

Every week there are hundreds of people who sign up on our website, shake my husband’s hand, or offer their support to Jim’s candidacy for Mayor of Louisville, so I want to take a moment to thank you and also to tell you why I think Jim would be a great Mayor for Louisville.

Aside from being a man with an amazing work ethic, demonstrated leadership ability and a passion for this City, Jim is first and foremost a man committed to his family, as a husband, father and grandfather. He's a man of deep faith and strong convictions. But I think as a voter who cares about electing the best man for the job, you would expect these qualities in your next Mayor; however, I think Jim has qualities that set him apart from the field. He is a proven problem solver with an ability to tackle complex issues and make it look easy. Jim started his own business from scratch while he was still in his twenties and has worked hard and smart to make it succeed. When he was elected to serve District 10 as Metro Councilman, he immediately set out to make a difference both for the people he served in his District and as a council leader for the City. When his Council colleagues on both sides of the aisle are asked about my husband's leadership, they cite his service as President of the Council, Chair of the Democratic caucus and his authorship of the Fair Labor Standards ordinance and the Transparency ordinance - both of which he sponsored to help our working men and women in this community.

These are serious times that our community faces. They require a Mayor who is completely committed to solving the problems we face and seizing the opportunities for our future. The job demands a leader who has the skill-sets, the qualifications and the experience to get things done. And just as important, I think our city deserves a Mayor who understands that in order to lead the City, you must first understand how the City works. Jim's spent the last six years making sure he does.

Jim's very accomplished and you might think at this stage of his life, he'd be planning for retirement or enjoying more leisurely pursuits. However, instead he has offered himself and his many talents to our city because he cares and thinks he can make a difference. I know he can. I hope you will agree.
